FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What type of painting is on Kumul Online Store?

All paintings offered on Kumul Online Store are original acrylic paintings from Papua New Guinea’s local artists. Acrylic paintings are executed in the medium of synthetic acrylic resins. Acrylics dry rapidly and are capable of giving both the transparent brilliance of water color and the density of oil paint. Acrylic paintings are less affected by heat and other destructive forces that deteriorates oil paint.

  • Who are the artists?

These paintings are from many local artists from all generations, cultural backgrounds and diverse technical history. One of them is the family of Late Mathias Kauage (1944-2003) who was undoubtedly PNG’s most prolific artist, with his work exhibited widely in Australia, Germany, Great Britain and the US. In recognition of his contributions to contemporary art in PNG, he received  an Award in 1998 (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire Award) from the Queen of England, Her Excellency Queen Elizabeth II.
